My Students

I teach a group of 25 students with special needs ranging in grades from 2nd-5th grade.
My students' disabilities range from Autism to ADHD and many others in between. These students learn in different ways and paper/pencil tasks do not motivate them. We do a lot of hands on, interactive learning where the students become a part of what they are learning about in order to fully understand the concepts and meet all of their IEP goals. All of my students' special needs mean that they need extra help with math.
My Project
My students need a Makerbot Promotional Bundle, with 3-D printer, red, blue and white filament and a 2-year service plan. In order to be prepared for middle school, high school, college and then the "real world", my students need to be gaining as many career readiness skills as possible while in elementary schools.
STEM is one way for my students to gain these skills and by having a 3-D printer. The students will be able to use these STEM skills that they are learning to create real tangible things. My students can use the math, science, reading, technology, arts and other skills they are learning on a daily basis and put them into action. The students are learning coding skills on a weekly basis and learning how to move robots around the building using these skills.
I believe that it would be just as beneficial to take the other skills the students are learning and have them move those skills into creating things with a 3-D printer. This would be a huge benefit not just to my students, but to the entire school of around 600 students who will see what we are doing.
