My technology students in grades 4-6 are extremely interested in computer science, technology, and STEM topics, but they don't have the resources available to advance their experiences and knowledge in this area.
During the school's Computer Science week my students touched the surface using code at the basic level.
The look on the students' faces said it all! They were so excited and eager to code they would ask me about it in the halls and at lunchtime.
Coding opened up many areas of creativity and incorporated Math, Literacy, and Science. Many of the students can't wait until they can code again and are eager to learn how to get involved with Virtual Reality and Robotics!
I have a student volunteer from one of the local universities who will be teaching and training me on Coding and CAD as well as assisting me with some of the student's Computer Science projects.
My Project
With this requested Robot 3D printer and color filaments, the students will be able to see and feel their inventions come to life! One of the activities they will be involved in is to create and invent items that can benefit their classroom, school, and society as a whole. After they print it out on the 3-D printer they will be able to see if it works or where it might need to be improvised or changed. The students will be using Critical Thinking skills as they incorporate math and science, along with technology, into their projects. They will be applying STEM skills and having fun at the same time!
