This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am an occupational therapist in an urban area for over 50 students who identify as creative, social and empathetic. They could also identify as autistic, have an intellectual disability and/or be physically determined. When I'm not in my car going to five different schools and two outreach locations, I have the privilege of being their partner in learning.
My Project
I support special programs classrooms whose students need modifications and adaptations to demonstrate what they know. One successful tool I can't stop using is the Twist and Write pencil, or the "rocket" pencil as we call it. Having the adapted pencil is a game-changer for many of my students who fatigue quickly or are still developing a functional grasp pattern. Additionally, when I purchase them myself, they often go misplaced or broken and the teacher needs more. Help me stock the classrooms with this adapted tool and support student's development of ideas!
