3, 2, 1... Engage With Scholastic News

Help me give my students an exciting way to learn about the world in a fun and interesting way through reading.

My Students

I teach in an elementary school that is part of a large school district. The school I teach is a Title I school that is highly impacted by poverty and very low academics. In my classroom I have students that are English Language Learners and low level learners who struggle with literacy. Exposing them to different works of literature will spark an interest in reading.

I also have students that live in a shelter and have experienced homelessness and familial trauma.

The resources I hope to bring into my classroom will help not just my English Language Learners and below level learners, but my entire class to become literate using Scholastic News and Scholastic Science.

There is a buzz about learning to read in our classroom. Students are provided with many opportunities to discuss what they are reading in small groups, large groups, and with reading buddies. The more interesting reading materials available for students, the greater the buzz becomes.

My Project

I want to help my students build an interest in reading. The best way to do this is by having reading materials that pique their interest, are age appropriate, and engaging. Scholastic News also provides my students with meaningful activities that enrich learning, synthesize what they have learned, and spark exploration.

This project includes a classroom set of Scholastic Science Spin Magazine and a classroom set of Let's Find Out kindergarten magazine.

These will be used to enrich the students learning in science and social studies as well as give the students materials that are hands on.

These magazines will be a great addition to our whole group instruction time, as they will keep my students engaged. The magazines will help with building comprehension skills, reading fluency and accuracy, and vocabulary skills.
