My students need launch pads for their model rockets to end their energy unit.
My students come from all walks of life. Even though many of them come from high poverty backgrounds, they come in with a smile. I have a diverse group of students, who come together as a classroom family every day. I am pleasantly surprised how much they care for each other as well are other citizens in our community.
A few shining examples of student led projects include: a school wide kid to kid coat drive, trick or treat for UNICEF, and raising money for the Heifer International organization.
Students thought of these projects on their own through the inquiry based International Baccalaureate units.
These globally minded citizens are still kids, they enjoy learning through games. I am constantly coming up with new games for them to try out. I want to keep them engaged and moving forward by hiding content in a game. Please help me support them as they support others.
We have been studying the different forms of energy and now we want to put our learning into action. We need additional launch pads for our model rockets. We will be launching rockets as a culminating activity to end our energy unit. These launch pads will benefit four classrooms of fifth and sixth grade students. These kids have never had the opportunity to do a science project of this caliber. Having the experience of designing and launching rockets addresses many of their science standards as well as problem solving strategies. Our students work so hard everyday we want to give a little back to them, by having a big launch day.
