I am in charge of the landscaping committee at my school. We trim bushes, spread mulch plant trees and flowers. We also recently made a reading garden, where we made benches for the kids to sit on and the teachers or kids, read a book outside.
I would love to have a garden club so the kids can learn how to grow food and flowers.
Last year I had 2 different classes help me plant flowers in both of our courtyards. The kids see the flowers and are proud that they helped make the school look pretty.
Some foreseen benefits of instituting a Garden Club are the students will learn how to plan, plant, care, and harvest easily grown flowers and vegetables.
This is a chance for them to have hands-on learning, appreciation for the natural environment, instill ownership of something grown, increase self-esteem, and integration of curriculum in areas of science, math, social studies, and language arts.
