2nd STEM Laptop To Support Growing Interest In Engineering

My students need need a second STEM laptop that we can try new software and control our own software licenses for robotics, engineering, physics.

My Students

I do not give my students engineering challenges where I know the answer. What I do give them is the tools and knowledge to find their own solutions.

My students come from many backgrounds around the world.

For reference, the school population as a whole has 40 different languages at home. Also, more than 2/3 of the school is eligible for free or reduced lunch. The students in my classes and STEM/Robotics club are a community within the school. I push these students to aim higher and work to achieve it. Although some are in my classes, my students may be in my room before school, during lunch, and/or after school.

My Project

This would be the second laptop that I will have for the STEM projects I do with my students in and out of classes. As the robotics team and my classes have grown, it has become a challenge to share the single laptop on to which I am able to load software. The students use the shared laptop to program robots, calibrate remotely piloted aircraft systems, and play team building games as rewards when the class is ahead. With the single laptop, I have been able to install software and the students have had a mobile STEM laptop specifically dedicated for engineering, physics, and robotics.

Donations to this project will help me give these students life-directing experiences in engineering and robotics.

More than 2/3 of the school is eligible for free or reduced lunch. As such, I want my students to take part in competition and events that boost their scholarship applications and in some instances, make them eligible for scholarship funding. The ability to compete in robotics and other STEM competitions with access to a STEM laptop will give them more of these opportunities.
