2nd Graders Score 100% on Being Awesome Playing Learners
Help me give my students vocabulary, phonics, and word work games, magnetic addition and subtraction regrouping trays, math manipulatives, and math games to allow them a way to learn through doing what they do best...playing!
We have a very culturally diverse school. At any given time, our school's population has between 45% and 53% who are classified as low income. As well, 55% - 65% of our school's population are at poverty level.
Our second graders come to school each day ready to learn in new and challenging ways!
They are bright, enthusiastic, creative, and full of excitement about learning! They are also resilient, and bravely face the tasks presented to them at school, despite hard home-life conditions that some find themselves in. We often "catch" our students being kind friends to one another and offering to help us and their classmates.
Being able to provide these students at school with educational games and resources that their families are unable to provide them with at home will benefit these students greatly. They love the adventure of learning! Thank you for your consideration, "Scoring for School" and Real Salt Lake!
My Project
Through the math and language arts games and resources called "Roll & Read Phonics Games," "Hands-On Addition (and Subtraction) Regrouping Kits," "Word Work (and Phonics) Activity Stations," "Vocabulary Match-Ups - Complete Set," "Time Equivalency Puzzles," and "Place Value Bingo," all from Lakeshore, our students will have a fabulous opportunity to learn in different and engaging ways! We will particularly implement these games for them to use during our math and reading rotations. Children, particularly 7-8 year olds, are so curious about the world and learning all about it. It is clear after spending just a few short minutes with any young child!
With that being said, it is exciting for us to think about the fact that because of your generosity, our students will be given the opportunity to learn and feed their curiosity through doing the thing that kids do best; playing!
I know that our students' educations will be significantly enhanced through these games. This is because these games will give our students the chance to experience their learning in new and exciting ways, as opposed to just learning from their teacher or from a "worksheet."
