I am a second grade teacher in a low poverty title one school. This is my second year as a certified teacher even though I have been helping at this school for five years. My heart has drawn me to this school because as a child I came to this school (one of twelve different public schools) and I know what kinds of issues these children fight everyday. I am a young teacher with not much money but the money I get goes to my students. I work hard everyday to make sure I give them the best atmosphere they can get at school. I take my time to get to know each student individually so that they can lean on me when they go through things. I have students tell me they didn't eat or sleep the night before. I have heard students tell me their parents are not doing the right things at home. During my college classes I did learn if a teacher can provide a healthy atmosphere the child can succeed even if they come from a horrible household.
My Project
My students do not have computers at home so they must use the computers at school. Our district encourages the students to use a learning program online to increase their knowledge. This program is very important here as it determines whether a student passes or fails. For the class to succeed having headphones would increase their chances to excel. We asked for these from the parents at the beginning of the school year with no success.
Our students work so hard each and every day.
If you could see the smile on their faces when they learn something new you would be amazed. They always stop during their computer time and tell me they are learning more about what I taught them through the program. Children are our future and we need to give them every advantage we can!
