My Project

I work at a Title 1 school where school supplies are often limited. 2nd grade has a heavy emphasis on reading and writing, in addition to students learning to be more responsible and independent. Giving the students a chance to have their own school supplies will help them accomplish these goals and be successful learners in 2nd grade.

Folders, notebooks, markers, and pencil boxes are essential supplies in 2nd grade that no student should be without.

With many learning targets geared toward reading and writing, the students need folders and notebooks to accomplish these learning goals. The primary composition notebooks are especially important because the lines allow the students to practice their handwriting, and the empty space at the top of the page is great for adding pictures or organizing their writing.

Pencil boxes and folders are also essential in 2nd grade so the students can practice being responsible for their own learning materials. They keep their supplies in their desks, so having folders and pencil boxes helps them to stay organized.

Having a rug with spots is also important for a 2nd grade classroom. Each student can have their own space while also making it easy to turn and talk with a partner or a small group. In 2nd grade we do a lot of “turn and talks” and group discussion, so having a rug with spots will help with many learning targets.
