This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever read a book that was too challenging to the point your frustration levels caused you to give up? My students experience this frustration due to the fact that they do not have guided reading book sets at their appropriate reading levels.
My class is comprised of underprivileged, inner city children.
I have 22 second grade students, 5 students are English language learners, and 3 students have IEPs. My classroom library is not properly equipped to accommodate my students due to the fact that the books are not leveled and the books are very out dated. Our school is located in NYC and unfortunately due to the community in which our school is located, we are not funded for the resources available to properly educate them.
My Project
These 4 leveled guided reading book sets are resources that will change my students' lives for the better. It will ease their frustration levels when it comes to reading due to the fact that the books will be at their appropriate reading level. They will become more successful with reading during center time and in the after school program.
This project is so important because my class is not equipped with leveled guided reading books sets.
In order to provide my students with a guided reading experience I have to use books that are very outdated as well as books that are not appropriate for the students' own personal needs. Donations will make the classroom environment a more conducive setting where students are relaxed and eager to learn to read.
