2nd Grade: Innovation, Collaboration and Technology
My students need these tools such as the Ozobots and Magnet Building Tiles to create, build, explore and problem solve with an emphasis on S.T.E.A.M. activities. These supplies will support a rich learning environment while focusing on innovation and technology integration.
Creative, imaginative, enthusiastic, and inquisitive are only a few words that describe my second grade students.
They have a love of learning, they challenge themselves daily and they encourage growth in each other, all while developing grit.
I teach at a Title 1 school with nearly 70% of my students on free and reduced lunch. This wonderfully diverse group comes to me each day with a variety of needs, backgrounds and experiences.
I am fortunate to be able to spend two years with my students as a first/second grade looping teacher. I get to see amazing growth from each and every one of them, academically, socially and behaviorally.
My Project
My students will be able to use these tools in a variety of ways to connect daily learning with innovation and technology.
The various building supplies will be used to share and demonstrate student learning in math and science, as well as social studies and reading.
Students will be able to build structures with a specific purpose, then modify to improve them in some way, learning as they go. Building with peers will facilitate cooperation and reinforce communication skills as they explain to each other their reasons and purpose.
The Ozobots will be used share story elements from books that they have read or heard. They will also be able to code the Ozobots and record their voice to explain new learning across the curriculum.
The Retro Handsets will allow students to incorporate technology and share their learning while teaching others, by recording their innovation. While incorporating a variety of classroom apps in authentic learning, students' voices will be recorded clearly for all to hear!
