My Students

Welcome to our art room! I teach students from kindergarten to fourth grade, and I also teach sixth grade in an urban area with a diverse student body represented by many countries.

These kiddos love art and show it through their motivation and persistence when working on art projects.

Every day they come into the art room ready to learn or share what they remembered from the last class.

Many of my students do not have the opportunity to interact with art materials at home, so I want to provide them the opportunity to engage with a variety of art mediums.

My Project

During remote learning, all students were given an art packet that included a sketchbook. The students enjoyed having a sketchbook for art class, and it was a great tool to document student growth.

Sketchbooks are essential tools for artists.

Artists use sketchbooks for many reasons, such as having an informal space to explore and experiment with different ideas and techniques, document new ideas and concepts, and a sketchbook is a physical record of progress.

The art room is a unique space where every student in the building steps foot in the room which can cause a unique set of challenges, including organization. Providing each student a sketchbook would help alleviate this challenge and give each student the space to keep everything organized for art class. Students can keep track of their vocabulary words, artist goals for projects, and project planning in a sketchbook. It is also an excellent tool for both the teacher and the students to track their growth and progress visually. Additionally, we use sketchbooks to reference or review what was learned in previous classes.
