My students need chapter books! In 2nd grade, students are excited to continue to work in book clubs. We have many chapter books in the room but multiple copies are needed to make it work!
My students in Philadelphia are absolutely amazing! My second grade classroom is so diverse that it makes teaching that much better everyday! It is great to see how they all learn from each other every day even though they come from different backgrounds culturally and economically.
My students deserve the same opportunities as any other thriving district!
They love reading and writing. It truly makes my day rewarding! They are learning and growing every day from reading and writing in the classroom! I love watching them succeed in reading!
My Project
Book clubs are such a fun and inventive way to get students excited about reading. Through book clubs, students will read the same book and discuss in a literature type circle. This will increase engagement, comprehension, and most importantly high order thinking! The students take the initiative and lead the discussion from what they have read. The cool thing about book clubs is that they are completely student led! The teacher checks in with them and conferences with students when they read independently. Giving students this independence makes them excited to learn! They will not only respond through a discussion but also in a response journal.
