I am the librarian at a K-6 inner city Expeditionary Learning school. Expeditionary Learning (EL) is a method of instruction that emphasizes high achievement through active learning, character growth and teamwork. Our school has been extremely successful with EL and our state wide scores are soaring. We are a school of readers!

One of the problems I have in the library is providing quality books for my students to read. My library budget is only $1,000 a year which buys approximately 55-60 library shelf ready books. Obviously, we need more. My students love to read and every week they come in the library looking for specific books. One of the categories that I lack in my library is "the supernatural". My students, especially my fifth and sixth grade boys, love to read about ghosts, UFOs, Big Foot...

When my students come in looking for books on the supernatural, I can only point them to my measly collection of about five books, all of which are out-dated. They keep asking me to buy new books on these subjects, but unfortunately, my budget only goes so far.

I know that if I were to receive funding to buy this quality set of books on supernatural occurrences, my students would be thrilled. These are hardcover books that will last over time in the library. Not only would they be used immediately, they will be used for years to come. These books have been on my wish list for a long time now, and I'm hoping that I can fulfill this gap in my library once and for all. My students love to read, and when they have quality books that they want to read, it is a beautiful thing.
