My students need a new rug to sit on after 22 years of use. The color, density and cushion have finally worn out after the wear of tear of 22 students times 22 years.
This project expired on January 1, 2014.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
What an impact it will be for our 21st century students to come into a welcoming classroom. Kindergarten is the foundation to building listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
Students come from all parts of town, however, the majority are from the neighborhood.
We are a school that does not receive additional funds from the District, like Title I, where over 50% qualifies for free or reduced price lunches. However, because of cultural pride and inaccurate communication, I believe the school is at similar demographics.
I have been teaching at this school for 22 years and I know the age of this rug. I continue to brighten the classroom with student artwork and props, however, I cannot do anything about this "old worn-out" rug. I continue to have students who have challenges in sensory motor-integration and with special needs. Having a new rug that offers cushion and cheerfulness can help those students transition.
Having a new rug will add to the buzzing and excitement in our classroom as the students continue on their journey in learning.
Sitting on a new colorful rug will not only help with classroom management, but with those who have sensory motor intergration challenges to sit longer on a new carpet.
