This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

During the month of December, we read Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory book. Students enjoy reading every chapter of the book, and they anxiously wait for the end-of-the-chapter activity whether it is a candy invention poster, a math gum ball craftivity on fractions, or a vocabulary enrichment musical chairs game. To celebrate reading the entire book, I give my students a Willy Wonka Book party celebration.

I believe that every situation we go through gives us an opportunity to express gratitude and kindness to the world. As we read the chapter book, I will guide students into exploring the different themes and lessons Roald Dahl is teaching us through Charlie, Mr. Wonka, and the rest of the characters. One of my favorite things to do is to recreate the scenes from the book with an interactive setting of the movie.

During our book party celebration, students watch the original movie and I guide them into comparing and contrasting the events from the movie and the book. The items that I'm requesting will be used to recreate Mr. Wonka's Chocolate Factory. The backdrop of balloons will be used to decorate the classroom main wall, the Nostalgia chocolate fountain will be used to mimic the chocolate river in which Augustus Gloop fell in, Mike Teevee's white sunglasses for his scene, and the gold foil paper will be used to wrap the Wonka bars. On the day we are done reading the book, each student will be given a Wonka bar, which will contain a golden ticket inside it. The ticket will include "bring this golden ticket to room 25 the day of...In your wildest dream you could not imagine the things that await you."
