My Students

My school is a Title One school, with a high population of ELL students as well as students with low, socio-economic statuses. All of them receive free or reduced price lunch and participate in a backpack program to ensure they have food for the weekend.

My students have all been diagnosed with one or more behavior disability; this causes them to struggle with social interactions at home and at school. They also do not always have the best relationships with their families because of their behavior. Using this project, I hope to change that.

My goal for this school year is to focus on every child, everyday. I want to help them mend relationships with people they have hurt, cope with feelings and build confidence in themselves. They have always been labeled as the "bad kids" or the "naughty ones" and I want to change that.

My Project

Having access to iPads and tablets in our classrooms will allow students of all ages to develop higher order thinking skills associated with navigating technology. These skills are essential in today's world. These devices will allow my students to access more educational apps to extend their learning in all subjects areas. There are a variety of apps that my students are currently unable to use due to the lack of resources I am able to provide for them.

Ipads and tablets help keep students engaged and motivated to continue learning.

My students struggle with a variety of behavior issues, so finding things that motivate them make a huge difference in their learning. With these devices, they will be able to practice their math and reading skills in a variety of ways that they are unable to currently.

For the younger students, the tablets will be used to help them with letters, sounds, and basic reading skills that need reinforced up to 13,000 times for students who have attention deficits. The intermediate students will use the devices to continue to improve their skills by using apps to write code and practice harder math concepts. The additional practice that these devices can add to my classroom will be phenomenal and cannot even begin to compare to the hours of preparation I am doing to try and make engaging activities that do not include technology due to our lack of resources.
