My Students

Each morning, I greet my students with a smile and a high five! As they get ready for the day, they honor our country with the pledge and recite the Promise of Success to remind them what to strive for throughout the day and in life. I teach 23 energetic fourth graders. They are from a lower income neighborhood just outside of Detroit. They all qualify for free breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Life is not always easy for my students, but they come to school with a smile on their faces each day and a thirst for learning.

They leave each day feeling proud of what they've accomplished. My school strives to reach the needs of all of our students and prepare them academically, socially, and emotionally for their futures.

My Project

My students are fortunate to have a class set of iPads that we use daily. Unfortunately, typing on iPads is not very user friendly and many of the apps that my students use need the volume turned up which is not always classroom friendly. I teach fourth graders who take standardized tests for our state all online and that play many learning games through apps to sharpen their basic academic skills. This requires them to be comfortable typing on a standard keyboard and the ability to listen to directions online or in app without disturbing others. With these wireless keyboards, mouse, and headphones my students can play learning games on their iPads, practice their typing skills by writing blog posts, creating digital projects, and/or going through the writing process using a word processing program. By test time, my students will be more than ready to type their responses on a keyboard and utilize a mouse if they begin to practice at the start of fourth grade!

By donating to this project, you will be helping my students become more prepared for the world of online testing, strengthen their typing skills, create projects with ease, and use an app without disturbing their classmates.

They will be able to practice their typing skills ahead of time and sharpen their basic academic skills so that on test day this will not add stress to the already stressful day.
