My students need an iPad Pro, case, and Roku streaming stick in order to create multimedia presentations that can be presented and streamed throughout the school.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students at our school are eager learners looking to find a safe and secure place to do so. However, hurricane disaster caused a disruption in their learning environment and their ability to feel safe. Many of our students are immigrant families from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Honduras and other countries that are faced with many challenges.
Our school was heavily affected by the hurricanes that recently passed by.
Many rooms were left with water intrusion and damage that has made getting back to normal life difficult. Any funds or availability of items is now being used to make repairs to the damaged caused by Hurricane Irma. I work in a Title I school, where over 90% of our students are on free or reduced lunch. Our school is located in the heart of one of the lowest socioeconomic neighborhoods where many parents do not speak English. Our students are in need of once again feeling secure and safe in their learning environment. Our students need to know that there are people willing to help and make a difference in their lives.
My Project
As a result of the hurricane, many of our classrooms are unable to be used regularly and our students are continually displaced from their room. Each time students are moved to different locations they need basic supplies in order to make their learning environment as normal as possible. With an iPad and Roku streaming system, they will be able to take their classroom learning wherever they go. The tablet acts as a computer that allows students to create multimedia presentations, which allows our students to feel as though they are in a regular classroom setting with working student stations. With the Roku, they will be able to also stream their presentations throughout the school. This will allow them to have the most "normal" classroom environment possible considering the situation they are placed in.
As a student in a low socioeconomic environment, you are constantly having to adapt to changing situations especially after the effect these hurricanes have had on our students.
If there is any way to help my students stabilize their lives and create a feeling of safety and security, I would truly love to do that for them. These materials will make this feeling of normalcy happening once again for these boys and girls.
