My Students

Think for a moment how many times you have seen a smart phone, tablet, or computer in the past week. Students these days are growing up with all of these constantly around them. They need to be educated using those same devices!

My students are technology "hungry." Once a week our class has 30 minutes in a computer lab.

This amount of time is not enough to feed their desire to learn with technology. These students are very curious and love to explore new things, especially using a digital device. I am a second year teacher eager to help these wonderful kids love learning. Our district is committed to making sure each student is "College and Career Ready." Some of my students come from homes where higher education is not the first priority. These students need extra support at school. My students need to be able to maximize their time learning at school in order to make up for the time that is not taken at home. Our school has some great resources for helping them learn, but it is still lacking the ability to give these " hungry" students what is needed.

My Project

Apple iPads have endless possibilities when education is involved. The requested iPads will be used for anything from one-on-one teaching opportunities, small group work, projects, and even whole class engagement. Since a classroom contains 20 to 30 students, the two requested iPads would definitely be constantly used. They would be used not only for educational learning through apps, but also electronic assessment and monitoring of student learning. Digital recordings can be made of students understanding and can later be reviewed by the teacher. Instruction should be based upon students abilities, however a classroom is full of many different abilities. The iPads would be used for opportunities to teach students on their own level, without requiring complete attention from the teacher the entire time. Prerecorded teaching can be done by the teacher to then review a specific concept for an individual student. Ultimately, students will learn the skills of using technology and learn to gain information from using technology.

Becoming "College and Career Ready" involves not only reading, writing, and mathematics, but it also involves having 21st century skills, such as writing an email, researching a topic online, and digitally creating art or music.

Students whose homes don't prioritize education need additional support at school. These iPads will increase learning abilities and opportunities for years to come. Thank you for helping to brighten my students' futures!
