I call upon you to help fund my project which promotes inclusion and appreciation for diversity in our classroom. Some of you know that my students come from beautifully diverse urban and suburban, multilingual cultural backgrounds and for about half, English is their second language. Some of my students live a life experiencing more adversity in their 7 years on Earth than some adults experience in their lifetime. Last year we qualified for Title I status and our low income population continues to grow. With this however, I am honored to host in my classroom, a melting pot of rich culture and diversity. I am looking for resources such as new books for our class library and flexible seating to meet the needs of my future leaders. Your donation would be tremendously appreciated and would serve students for years!
My Project
Upon reorganization of my classroom last year, I embraced the learning environment of flexible seating. Flexible seating allows for students to learn in their most comfortable preferred ways, choosing seats and spaces where they learn best, builds student agency, allowing students to be more in control and motivated in their own learning. Learning comes in all shapes and sizes and is as diverse as each student in my classroom represented.
It is my goal to have every student feel welcome and valued and it's imperative that the resources in my classroom emulate these values!
We are requesting supplies, stools, books and tools for organization and focus! The wobble stools will be used at the back desk area for a quieter learning space for Chromebooks. The stools allow students to be flexible in their learning, free to move comfortably to increase focus on their assignments. The Post-it notes allow students to provide feedback, collaborate one another and increase organization.
The books chosen are highly regarded titles that are sought after in our classroom and school library. The Dr. Seuss books improve phonics and word recognition for English language learners while the Dog Man books and STEM books are favorites among our elementary students. The markers and erasers are used for every day use as needed by the students. The book shelves are to upgrade old broken bookshelves that we are currently using.
