My Students

I teach in a rural elementary school with 486 students. I am proud to be the new Innovation Specialist at my school. While an overwhelming number of our students are listed economically disadvantaged according to the free and reduced lunch program data, they work hard to overcome the odds and are excelling in their studies!

At my school, both students and teachers support each other, cheering successes and offering help when peers fall short of a goal.

This is "The Madison Way”, a mindset that is interwoven into all that we do. "I can help" is a frequent statement at our school. Our students understand that school is about more than academics as we work to build supportive relationships with those around us.

My Project

2020 has been a tough year for everyone. All of our students have struggled with virtual instruction, missing their teachers, peer interactions, and hands on instruction. We have worked hard to keep a strong STEM program going to help our students develop problem solving skills and remain engaged with instruction. Our students enjoy finding solutions to problems and bringing those solutions to life through 3D printing or other means. Many of our kids have collaborated virtually on projects during the pandemic, devising innovative solutions to various problems.

Our students will be coming back into the building in January, excited to bring their solutions to life with the 3D printer.

Sadly, our used 3D printer that was donated to our school no longer works. We have tried everything to get it up and running for our kids, but have been unsuccessful. I have not had the heart to give the disappointing news to our students. Please help us give our kids a new 3D printer so they can come back to school excited to try out their solutions, continue to develop critical thinking skills, and move toward the 21st century thinkers that we will need to carry us forward.
