My Students
My kindergarteners will begin their learning adventure on the outskirts of a large, urban district. Our school is a Title 1 school with approximately 850 students in grades PreK-5. The student body is a diverse group of learners, representing over 38 nations. We have 65 percent minority students and a 50 percent Free and Reduced Lunch population. Within this diversity is strength and determination, as our school continues to close the achievement gap while growing confident and successful learners.
Kindergarten sets the foundation for a lifetime of inquiry and a love for learning!
These little scholars are at an age when everything is still new and exciting and their quest to know "how?" and "why?" makes each day a joy to experience. I strive to provide them with experiences that will not only ignite a passion to wonder and question, but will also give them the skills to find the answers they seek.
My Project
My kindergarteners will begin their educational journey in my classroom, where in less than a year they will go from barely knowing their letters to being new readers. What an exciting adventure! In the digital world world my students live in, they are easily motivated and engaged when using technology, and having tablets in our classroom literacy stations would enable me to harness that enthusiasm to aid learning.
Apps that teach early literacy skills like letter names/sounds, sight words, and beginning reading skills would help propel my children forward in their growth as readers.
Having access to our own tablets would also enable us to use them at any time during the day, in other subjects as well, which will increase student exposure and learning.
