it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Walking into the classroom I recently moved into is like going back in time. Chalkboards instead of whiteboards; old wooden chairs that snag your bottom and hair; and minimal means of learning through advanced technology!
I have been teaching 2nd-grade at the same school for 11 years in CA.
This year has been a very challenging group not just due to the increase of student/teacher ratio, but also because of the varying behavioral problems most of my students face. In addition, a few have been diagnosed with attention deficit and/or hyperactivity, making it more difficult for them to retain lessons taught.
My Project
Knowing that students learn through visual, auditory, and kinesthetic means, I would like to integrate the various technologies I currently use to ensure the learning of my students, into one – by requesting a document camera. This document camera will get the attention of my visual learners through the convenience of seeing real-life objects, not just overheads. My auditory learners will also benefit because my computer will be hooked up with the device which will allow me to use audiovisual aids. For those kinesthetic learners, my students can use the document camera to demonstrate mini-lessons in front of the class or show the use of manipulatives to their classmates in solving math problems.
I have used the projector, my laptop, and the classroom television on separate occasions and each one requires a significant amount of time to set-up.
If I can only have a stationary place in front of the class to set up a document camera, I would be able to use it throughout the day without any time wasted! I would like an instrument where I can make the most of my classroom instructional time, as well as bring our classroom out of the old and into the 21st century of learning. Imagine that!
