My Students

My students are 4th graders with a small cluster of gifted and talented students. We are located in a small rural town in Northern California, two hours north of San Francisco. Over 75% of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch.

Many students do not have access to a computer or the internet at home.

Adequate access to technology at school will give these students the skills they will need to be successful in the 21st century. Chromebooks provide an affordable answer to technology shortages in classrooms.

My Project

We have just adopted a terrific new reading program (ELA) that has an engaging technology component! I am so excited to get all my students engaged in reading to learn. Currently, I have three Chromebooks and three aging computers for twenty-eight students in our classroom. I am trying to get as many Chromebooks into our classroom so the students can access the curriculum online, as well as other online resources. This project is requesting two HP Chromebook laptop computers.

The online reading program will especially engage reluctant readers, improving their academic skills for their lifetime.

Reading is an essential skill for student success as adults. When students become strong readers, opportunities become numerous.
