Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine having the opportunity to attend an elementary school where you learn two languages! My students are part of a Spanish Dual-Immersion school in Sonoma, CA. Through this educational language model my students will become bilingual as well as bi-literate.
All students are 2nd language learners and native language role models, helping each other understand.
My students work together in their acquisition of language. They are little sponges absorbing everything! My students are in a journey to become lifelong learners.
Although Sonoma County is a wealthy area, more than half of my students have a low-income background. I want to provide a welcoming environment with all the materials they need in order to flourish as learners.
My Project
We are in an era surrounded by technology. As a result we have to prepare students for this technological world. My school is making a shift towards this direction. I currently have a class set of Chromebooks. This is great, but I don't have headphones for my students to use the Chromebooks in a meaningful way. With 29 students, it can get loud very quickly, especially when using programs that require sound. This is why I am requesting a class set of headphones. I want my students to take advantage of this wonderful resource they have available.
When used correctly, technology in the classroom enhances education.
I have so many ideas I can't wait to try with my students. I want them to work collaboratively through Google Apps. I want them to learn about coding. I also plan on having them use programs to help them become better readers, and improve in math.
Having headphones will makes this bilingual learning process a lot easier. With headphones students can use their Chromebook and focus on whatever they are working on. A lot of the programs are interactive and students need to listen to the audio. I plan to integrate this technology through various content areas. For example, I want my students to create digital storybooks from the writing they create during Writer's Workshop.
I am very excited about this project. I know all of this will benefit my students in becoming bilingual and biliterate individuals. Please consider being a part of this project. Thank you!
