Children are already accustomed to a world that moves faster and is more exciting than anything a teacher in front of a classroom can do. -Major Owens
Today our society is so full of technology that it is often difficult to engage children using the traditional "paper and pencil" activities that we all grew up with.
Many of my students have spent more time with a video game controller in their hand than a book, but I also have many students that have not. Our school is a Title 1 school, which means we have a high percentage of low socioeconomic students. The materials I am requesting will allow my students to be open to the world of technology and learn how to use it for projects in the classroom. I have a class full of students ready to learn, no matter what their socioeconomic background is.
My Project
If I had an iPad mini in my classroom I would be able to capture the attention of my students better. For my students that spend all their free time playing video games, using the iPad mini would keep them engaged. For those children who are never read to at home, they would now have a chance to listen to audiobooks. The iPad mini would also be a great incentive for those students who have a difficult time following the rules. There are also many educational applications that are available to be loaded on iPad minis that cover a variety of subject areas and ability levels! What a fun way to learn!
By donating to this project, you would be helping my students build their vocabulary and improve their comprehension and fluency, all while having fun.
