This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are born into homes were struggle has become their way of life. They often face many social inadequacies that can only be overcome with education. Most of our students are reading at about the second grade level and have been diagnosed with autism, oppositional defiant disorder, ADHD, and emotionally deserved. While, some are motivated to thrive and succeed others need someone to lift their self-confidence so that they can start to dream of success. I teach in a classroom where there are more "I can't" than "I can".
Most of the parents in our neighborhood are not college graduates and are single parents, who work too many jobs to assist their children with their educational journey.
Although, they value education they often can't seem to support their children academically since they are limited due to their level of literacy. They depend on the school to motivate, nurture and educate their children since they themselves lack the time to do so.
Our school serve children who come from low socio-economic households. In our school, 99% of our children qualify for free lunch.
My Project
Our students are limited in their experiences with technology and how it can enhance their learning. Our students desperately need to engage with technology so they can become digitally literate citizens. By having the echo, students will understand the technology of using voice control to check weather updates, research information, check spelling, use the thesaurus and play music to calm the learning environment. This device will turn a rather dinosaur era classroom into a 21st century classroom with the use of voice. The Kindles are needed to help engage students with technology through the use of books. Our classroom will achieve the perfect balance of paper and paperless. These kindles will give students the opportunity to have a library of audiobooks as well as high-interest articles all with the touch of their fingertips.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
