This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
When we educate we must allow our students to become engaged in their own learning. Twenty-first century learners need technology to enhance and improve their learning!
I teach a diverse classroom of second grade students in the lower Rio Grande Valley.
My classroom is compiled of English language learners and Gifted and Talented Students! This combination is both difficult and extremely rewarding. I am learning this year that my students enjoy creating and assessing their own abilities. They love to go on "scientific investigations" and are all about competing towards reaching higher Accelerated Reader goals! Our schools demographic pattern consists of low income and mostly Hispanic students which sets them to be "At Risk" learners. Despite their backgrounds and challenges, parents, students, and teachers are placing their highest efforts in achieving the demanding standards of education set forth by our district. I am truly blessed to have such enthusiast learners.
My Project
It is difficult at times to meet my students' educational needs due to the lack of technology in my classroom. I have one working computer with Internet that is shared with 20 students. Not having the technology necessary to complete research projects, A.R. test, or listen to read alouds does hinder the frequency in which my students can completely engage their minds through learning. Having 2 mini iPads in my classroom will completely change the learning environment for my students in the most positive of ways! These mini iPads will be used for small group learning, research, and interactive learning activities for reading, math, and science.
With your support my students will have access to the Internet and educational apps in order to improve their overall learning experiences!
Not only will learning become fun for them but it will allow them to explore and expand their background knowledge through the use of technology. Technology will definitely create a positive impact in my second grease classroom!
