This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are in a math, science, technology magnet program that has not received an additional cent of funding since the program began over a decade ago. Imagine their disappointment when they are unable to explore the immense world of the Internet on our classroom computers.
My students are amazingly intelligent six year-olds who are creative and curious about everything around them.
They are the lucky ones who were selected by lottery into our school's magnet program and they appreciate every moment in our classroom. The students and their parents look forward to a class filled with activities and projects emphasizing MATH, SCIENCE and TECHNOLOGY, yet TECHNOLOGY is seriously lacking due to the lack of funds.
My Project
My students are learning how to read, write, add, and subtract as well as create projects in all of the curricular areas--science, math, social studies. The Samsung tablet will open up a world of activities and research sites for my first grade students. In Language Arts, my students will be able to download books and work on websites that will help them enhance their oral vocabulary and reading skills. Math instruction will be enhanced by the use of websites focusing on math skills and applications to improve their mathematical reasoning and skills.
My students live in an urban inner city, but their minds are not limited by their environment.
With the Samsung Galaxy tablet, technology will be incorporated into the classroom. Students will learn to use and feel comfortable with the latest technology. Students will be engaged and excited about their learning and be prepared for the 21st century world they are living in.
