My students need 3 of the new Mindstorms EV3 kits to stay competitive with other FIRST LEGO League teams in our area.

There's no better way to prepare students for the 21st century than by forming a FIRST LEGO League team... but what happens when your team wants 21st century materials and your school doesn't have the money to purchase them?
I coach a FIRST LEGO League team (called "The Goonies") after school in a public elementary school in Illinois.
Our school is more than 90% low income and more than 90% minority, and my FIRST LEGO League team is a reflection of this diversity. The students on my team who participated in last season's "Nature's Fury" challenge invested more than 150 hours outside of the regular school day (which equates to about 5 full weeks of school,) and they are excited to participate in next season's "World Class Learning Unleashed."
If you choose to fund this project, my students will be able to use the latest in 21st century LEGO Robotics systems - the Mindstorms EV3! This kit's interactive servo motors, color sensors, touch sensors, and infrared sensors and beacons will be used to design, build, and program an autonomous robot that can complete challenges on a themed playing field. My students will have the opportunity to learn the new programming software and share this knowledge with their fellow classmates. They will also have the opportunity to utilize up to four motors at the same time with the EV3 kit (which is a huge improvement over the 3 motors they are able to use currently). In December, my students will also have the opportunity to take their robot and have it compete against other schools in a regional qualifying tournament.
Your donation to this project will have a lasting impact on the lives of these students!
The knowledge they will gain by designing, building, and programming their EV3 robot can be transferred to many other academic areas, and it will get them started down the path to a career in a STEM related field!
