My students need more choice and flexibility in their daily routine. The standing desks, dining sets, and couch give my students the choice and flexibility I believe they need.
Our school is an ethnically diverse school in Henderson, NV.
As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they vary academically.
My students come to class eager to learn. They write beautifully, and I would love give them a more comfortable space to read, write and collaborate with others. I have a small area in my room with a couple fun chairs. I don’t have enough flexible seating to allow everyone to work in that space. When they do sit in that area with their small group, they are engaged.
Alternative seating supports a positive learning experience, higher academic performance, better attention and focus, and improved performance and behavior. Research has proven that if students have the opportunity to choose alternative seating options throughout their school day, their bodies (and minds) will be awake and ready to learn!
Please consider donating to a more flexible seating for our students.
My Project
I am looking to update the traditional classroom to a 21st-century flexible seating style with standing desks, dining sets, and a couch. I truly believe students need more choice and flexibility in their daily routine. Some kids need to stand. Some need to stretch out on the floor. And others need the traditional setting. I recently read an article researching this topic. According to Delzer, “If we truly want to prepare our students for the real world, we need to put them in responsive, dynamic environments that reflect life outside of a traditional classroom. And what’s that life outside like? Full of choices, where adults are responsible for their own learning.” This resonated with me and made me realize I need to try to make this happen for our students.
