My Project

I recently made the switch from teaching 3rd grade to 1st grade for the first time in 15 years. As a 3rd grade teacher, I frequently used flexible seating (4 octagonal tables that seated six students each). This was a remarkable way to group students and allowed for academic differentiation and socialization that was vital for a well-rounded academic year. Now, switching classrooms, I no longer have these tables available to me. I currently have a classroom with only one table ... the table that I am requesting four more of to make it a uniform classroom set.

Meeting the needs of my new first-grade students is imperative, and the flexibility of these desks will go a long way for me to achieve this goal.

In addition to flexible seating being vital to my classroom management, these desks go one step further by allowing easy movement and varying configurations, all without sacrificing quality.

I am hoping to pioneer this type of seating at my school in my new grade level, as I have seen how effective it has been for me and my colleagues in 3rd grade.

I am hoping this project allows the students in our classroom to realize what I already know ... that First Grade is #1, not just in number order, but in classroom experience as well.
