My Students
I am the Library Media Specialist to a unique elementary school. The students that attend here are 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. This school was previously designated as a middle school (6th-8th), but due to district restructuring has changed to an official elementary level school.
The students that attend this school deserve the best that we have to offer, and I hope to offer them the world through reading.
Although my students have historically struggled academically, I believe they can overcome their obstacles and excel.
My Project
Each year the students of Oklahoma get the chance to participate in the Sequoyah Book Award selection process. The students are encouraged to read (a minimum of three of the book nominees) and vote for their favorite.
The Sequoyah Book Award program encourages reading.
I want to be able to give my students access to the books so that they can participate along with other students across Oklahoma. I usually like to have more that one copy of each book in my collection so that the students will have better access to the books. If this project is funded, my students will have better access to the books; therefore, increasing the likelihood of participation.
