Since our formation in 2010, we have promoted STEM throughout our community. With over 1,000 hours invested in outreach programs and events, the Tiki Techs have inspired generations of future STEM leaders. Our cooperation and communication with the community has created a foundation for innovation.
Our team motto — kulia i ka nu’u (strive for the summit)motivates our Tiki Techs to develop personal opportunities, deepen their skills base, and empower our rural community.
Our team’s diverse composition (balanced gender ratio, more than 12 different ethnic heritages, a majority of team economically disadvantaged, and some students with special education needs) empowers us to find innovative, effective, and creative solutions to a wide variety of problems.
Our robotics team is seeking community support for the 2018 season. Our team has over 5 dozen students with diverse backgrounds that enable creative and effective problem-solving. The FRC season is always one of our toughest yet most enjoyable times of year. Our team alumni have translated our success in robotics to college scholarships at schools like Yale, Columbia, CalTech, Stanford, Rice, Cornell, GeorgiaTech, UChicago, UCLA, and many more. We want to continue to expose these students to the exceptional opportunities of FRC and hope you will partner with us in making this a reality. These funds will support registration and needed supplies.
In Their Own Words
"I'd like to improve our driving by using new and improved controls such as joysticks and what not. This past FRC season, we experienced difficulties to effectively control our robot, with a new joystick we hope to further improve the precision for both our robot and our drivers, making the experience much more enjoyable." - Sarah C. (freshman)
"With these supplies, we hope to not only improve our driving, but also the experience of this FRC Season. These new supplies can help further the learning experience and our bond as it will make communicating and operating easier. Although the experience has been great so far, these supplies will take the season a step forward." - Noa R. (freshman)
"FRC has already taught me how to become a community leader by introducing STEM to elementary school students through exhibition and summer camps. With the registration fee for First Robotics Competition covered by this project, I will have the opportunity to further grow as a leader in the FRC community and bring back my knowledge to Kona." - Brock T. (freshman)
