This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The school where I teach is in a very small rural community with a very low population. Our school is Title One with 100% of students receiving free breakfast and lunch. Many of my students come from very diverse backgrounds with very high socio-economical issues. The majority of the students come from single parent homes who struggle to meet the needs of their children, and many depend on additional resources and extra food boxes the school can provide. Many of these students have never been outside of their community or had the experience of visiting new places and other parts of the world. Much of their imagination of what the world looks like comes from what they see on television or read about in books.
Despite the hardships these students face on a daily basis they come eager and ready to learn, wanting to expand their knowledge.
As a teacher these students encourage me every day to do my best because they give me their best, regardless of the real world challenges they face such as hunger, homelessness, abuse, and low-income homes.
My Project
My students have a great opportunity to experience our Nation's Capitol and understand the organizational structures and powers of the United States government (legislative, judicial, and executive). They will explore the different historical museums with artifacts, memorials and monuments. Students will have the opportunity to tour the White House and the National Air and Space Museum.
The students have been learning about the history of the United States, and how it was structured from the very beginning until this present day.
They have also been learning about the three branches of government over the past two years, so they are eager to have this opportunity to experience and tour all the wonderful exhibits of our Nation's Capitol.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
