As a first year teacher, I have a lot of excitement and a strong desire to be prepared for my students. My students deserve an environment where they enjoy there surroundings. In order to best fulfill this commitment to them, I want to create a fun, yet comfortable learning atmosphere.
I am excited to meet my upcoming first grade class this fall.
I will be lucky to receive around 21 students that I can call my kiddos during the 2015-2016 school year! I am so very excited. I have joined a team of fun and dedicated educators in a community that is equally fun and dedicated. I couldn't be more thrilled! The school is an older school that has had many stages of add-ons throughout it's 100 year history. With the age of this school, it will be again undergoing another major remodel. In the meantime, my classroom is empty at this time and is in need of some loving care. It is full of character, but lacks in supplies.
My Project
With a bare classroom ready to filled with young, energetic 6 and 7 year old first graders, I am wanting to match the energy and enthusiasm of my students by providing them with an area rug that is a focal point of much learning. An area rug, in my opinion for this age is essential. 1st grade students need to move and transition during the day as they really shouldn't be obligated to their desks each hour of the school day. I love moving to the rug as I introduce what we are to be learning next. The rug is great time to give instructions, read closely, interact, learn and share. It is also a wonderful management tool. The students are assigned areas of the rug and it helps to keep order and also allows for assignments to be given according to their seating arrangements. The students learn better when there is order and structure. An area rug provides the teacher with endless possibilities for teaching and at the same time give the students some down time away from their desks.
By receiving help with this project, my classroom is a step closer to becoming the environment every student deserves while learning.
It will not only improve the look and feel of the room, but will be a place where my students will know what to expect while learning on the rug. The rug is a learning tool and will be used as a way to manage and utilize time away from our desks. The students' lives will change for the better as they are allowed more than one way and place to learn.
