My Students
Working in one of the most diverse districts in New York City, I have the pleasure of teaching 60-1st grade students. My school offers departmentalized instruction which allows me to teach Language Arts (Reading, Writing, Phonics, Grammar) and Social Studies to two groups of students.
My students are a lively bunch with a genuine love of literacy.
Each day they look forward to learning new concepts and immersing themselves into the books that we read. My students are always engaged and pride themselves in taking ownership over their learning. Even though they find themselves struggling from time to time, they continue to put their best foot forward and strive to reach each of their goals.
My Project
When it comes to technology, kids are starting to use it at a younger age. Most of my students do not have access to computers at home. For them to have the opportunity to use them in the classroom is not only important but also very exciting for them. If my students were to have access to laptops in the classroom, they could use them to conduct research, publish reports/ personal stories, visit interactive websites, read books online and a host of other activities. Laptops would not only be a valuable tool in connecting to students of all learning styles, but also in developing their computer skills and enhancing student learning as a whole!
More than half of students from low‑income households
