Mrs. Quintana from Waterbury CT is requesting Books through DonorsChoose, the #1 classroom funding site for teachers.

1st Graders Learning About Science!

My students need quality nonfiction books on their reading level. They need books that are in color so they can understand the science topics that are being taught.

My Students

We have some of the most hard working students in Waterbury! They come from many different economical backgrounds as well as cultures. Everyone who attends our school receives free lunch. They walk into the classroom every day eager and ready to learn. They do not come class with much background knowledge in the areas of science and social studies. As a teacher I bring as much background knowledge to them via the internet or oral read aloud, however they do not have many leveled nonfiction texts on their reading level.

My Project

The materials I am requesting will provide my students realistic pictures to relate to and grade level appropriate leveled readers. With the push for common core and ready fiction and nonfiction leveled texts schools just can not keep up with the need. My project will put quality non fiction books in the hands of very eager students who want to learn all about our science topics. A school may only have one set of books to be used for an entire school and when you have a curriculum to follow...many teachers may be using that one set of books at one time.
