My Students
Our classroom is based on the balanced literacy or workshop model. This means that the majority of the students' day is spent independently completing tasks within groups or pairs while I conduct small group learning opportunities based specifically on each student's educational needs.
Our urban school is a small, quiet place tucked back in the outskirts of the city filled with about 300 amazing students ranging from kindergarten through eighth grades.
This year our 1st grade class consists of thirty active students with big hearts and exceptionally inquisitive minds. They LOVE to work hard which is why these bouncy bands will make all the difference in our classroom.
My Project
One of my students is new to our school this year. During a whole class conversation about what the students felt they needed in order to be successful in first grade, our new student suggested bouncy bands! He told us all about how in kindergarten, at his previous school, he loved his bouncy band and how it made sitting in his seat easier and way more fun. The rest of the class loved the idea and asked if I could get them for our room.
The bouncy bands will make a huge difference in our classroom because they will allow everyone to move while working throughout the school day without causing any distractions!
First graders are naturally wiggly beings and providing them with an opportunity to do so will make our classroom a more natural and positive place for them.
