Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our classroom is full of energetic 1st grade students with big hearts and great minds. Located in a low socioeconomic area in Denver, students in this classroom are the most deserving group of hard workers!
My students work hard every day, and remote learning has been a challenge for families and students.
These kindergarten students are curious about the world around them and need the classroom space to explore things they may otherwise not have the chance to explore. Their minds are like sponges, and they are thirsty for knowledge in the classroom environment. Now that we need to be home, it is hard for them to build conceptual learning without having materials. It is a joy to work with such energetic students.
My Project
Many of my students have nowhere to sit in their homes to learn effectively and need supporting writing to submit work. Students need flexible seating at home so they can have a space to learn virtually and so it feels like they are learning. Flexible seats will provide seating and an area for them to place their laptops which will help them to stay more engaged. Students would also benefit from continuing with their behavior plans in order to continue learning. Two students are highly motivated by pleasant smells which would help incentivize their time on screen when it is difficult to do. Additionally, stylus pens will help my young learners to write more precisely so they can still learn how to write in the virtual setting.
All of these materials will help to increase virtual engagement so our students can continue to learn at home.
Providing these resources will help to close some of the gap that exists between students who have supports and resources at home and those that need some help.
