I am honored to teach an amazing group of first graders in a class of about 25 students.
We are a Title I school south of the Washington, DC area.
My students have very diverse backgrounds, from low income families and military families, to D.C. professionals and blue collar workers. Many of my students also come from dual language homes, where little or no English is spoken. Many of my students have parents who make the 45+ minute commute north into Washington DC, Quantico Marine Base, and surrounding areas or south into the Richmond area every day, while their children spend additional hours outside of school, in daycares.
In March, schools across the country closed, due to Covid-19. This forced teachers everywhere to, almost overnight, reimagine and restructure public education as we know it, for all students! This has been no easy task. I, as a 1st grade teacher am requesting this $100 gift card to Teacherspayteachers, an online lesson plan site, in order to purchase online learning resources for Science and Social Studies, that will help keep education relevant, engaging, and fun for my 1st graders through the end of this school year, through summer school, and into the next school year, for as long as schools remain closed. Also to provide engaging lessons for students who may not be able to return to school as soon as their classmates, due to compromised immune systems.
