This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our city is one of the most poverty-stricken cities in our nation. The students in my school face many challenges at home and in their community, which influences their attitude before they even walk in the door.
No amount of blight, unreliable public transportation, or pothole infested road can stop our students and their families from moving forward and ensuring they are at school.
Determination like this reminds us to be connected with the reality of our students and to reach them to teach them. They deserve every resource available to ensure they succeed.
My Project
First grade is a fun and exciting time for parents, teachers, and students! Some students never attended kindergarten so for some, it will be their first day in a school. Creating a classroom environment that is welcoming and in order is pretty important.
Equipping our classroom with materials that promote organization and routines, allows any classroom to run like a well-oiled machine and makes students feel secure.
Primary grades are the prime grades for teaching independence. Having solid colored trays, caddies, and bins will allow my scholars to take ownership of their work and classroom utensils because everything will have a place. The caddies will be filled with classroom supplies such as pencils, crayons, glue sticks and scissors teaching students to share and take care or their materials.
Reading and writing skills are essential and modeling the expectation is important! The magnetic writing pages will allow me to show my students what their work should look like so that they are set up for success. The border will allow me to create sections on my classroom wall to hang charts and other resources by subject, making it easy for my students to locate information when they need a reference.
