Help me give my students a classroom library makeover, please. The green carpet, map, and clouds match my classroom theme of being outdoors. The shelves will help with display and organization.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My current library is made up of an old cabinet and one wooden bench that I found in a donation pile at the school. The foundations of reading are laid down in the first grade. It is important to spark their imaginations in order to get them interested in exploring books.
We live on a mountain, and for about 4 months of the year, we do not go outside often because it is too cold.
That's why I decided to decorate our classroom in the theme of "outdoors".
I would like to use the requested materials to create a more inviting and interesting library for my students. First graders like to move around a lot, so I would like the floor cushions in order to make their seat more comfortable on the floor during independent reading. I do not have a carpet in my classroom for storytelling, and I know the fluffy green carpet will be inviting and comfortable. As I mentioned above, my current library is an old cabinet that I found in a donation pile, so none of my books are openly displayed unless I leave the cabinet doors open. The requested shelves would allow me to display books openly to catch the students' eyes.
First graders learn about the continents and oceans. My current map is only two feet² and very boring in its colors. The map tapestry would spark many standards-based discussions because of the different design elements. The cloud decor does not have any specific reason other than I think they are really cool! I hang my students' art from the ceiling as well, so the clouds would be a neat element.
