Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Developing a "Culture of Literacy" among our students is a huge focus this year. To get students excited about reading, I am doing a 1st chapter read of a different novels in multiple classes. A 1st chapter read is a sneak-peek of a novel to entice our students to want to read the rest of the book. During a 1st chapter read, I will introduce the book, almost like a book talk. Included in the talk will be information about the genre, author, and book reviews. I will then do a read aloud of the 1st chapter to the students. After reading the 1st chapter of the book, the students and I will have a discussion on the characters, setting, and plot of the book. The goal is to get the students so intrigued by the first chapter, that they want to read more!
The donations to this project will help introduce new books and genres to students and help foster not only a culture of literacy but a love of reading.
Thank you for your consideration and help to make this project a reality.
