This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have not had rest mats now for ten years... and within those ten years the rest mats have gone through many changes. The mats that my students sleep on are tattered to the point that my students are in danger of bruises caused by the slits in the mats.... insects that inhabit the mats also pose a threat.
My school is located in a high poverty level area in Florida.....89% free lunch which has nothing to do with their intelligence level.
My students are very conscious and respectful of their surroundings. My students need to start the year off to a great start without enduring the dangers of past students mishaps.
My Project
My students rest mats are ten years old; they are tattered and torn. My students are constantly being bruised by the slits in their mats. Because the mats are so tattered and torn insects are making their homes within the cushion. One of my students was crying during naptime one day and I asked her what was the problem and she stated that a bug crawled up her nose. Sometimes I actually see my students pulling insects out of their torn mats and putting them in the garbage.
My students appear to accept what is when in reality it does not have to be that way. My students need a rest period during naptime without having to focus on the science of insects and their mobility.
With your support of the 18 REST MAT SCHOOL SMART DELUXE 4 SECTION 2 BLUE, my students will enjoy the comfort of a restful nap without any interruption from insects crawling up their nose or cuts from slits in the mats.
