My Project

My name is Brian Sledge, Teacher of Graphic Design at E.H. School in Paterson, NJ. I specialize in the creation of graphic novels, helping students bring their creative visions to life.

One of my dedicated juniors has accomplished something truly extraordinary—she has created her first-ever graphic novel focused on mental health awareness.

This powerful work is set to be published in February 2025, making her the first student at E.H. to achieve such a milestone. Her success serves as an inspiration, proving that creativity and perseverance can break barriers. To ensure she continues to thrive as a graphic novelist, I am requesting a 17-inch laptop computer that can support the advanced design software needed for high-quality illustrations, professional layouts, and digital publishing and allow for greater precision in her artwork with a larger screen.

Providing her with a professional-grade laptop would be an investment in both her future and the broader creative aspirations of students in our community. As her teacher, I am refining my curriculum to equip her with Photoshop skills, web design knowledge, and insights into the publishing industry to prepare her for long-term success.

Upon publication, her graphic novel will be showcased in all four branches of the Paterson Public Library and will kick off a book signing tour at four Barnes & Noble locations surrounding Paterson, NJ.

Coming from an economically disadvantaged background, she is overcoming obstacles through sheer determination. Providing her with this essential resource will not only sustain her momentum but also empower her to pursue a lasting career as an artist and storyteller while inspiring other student graphic novelists to follow in her footsteps.
