My Students
Welcome, and thank you for visiting my project! I am blessed to say that I have 27 students (whom I lovingly call, "my friends") in a self-contained Kindergarten classroom, ages from five to six years old. The school is located in a working class mixed race urban community. The parents of my students work so hard to balance providing financially for their families as well as providing academic support for them.
My students are special for an infinite number of reasons; Most notably, they have the most genuine and kind hearts that I could ever wish for.
They encourage each other when needed, celebrate each others' achievements, show love and compassion when a friend is feeling hurt or sick, and continuously strive to make me, their teacher, happy. I am beyond LUCKY to teach these beautiful minds every day, and because of that, I'm doing all I can to make sure they have everything they deserve to make them succeed.
My Project
My school district is reconstructing their outline, requirements, and flow of the mathematics block. There is a new push for less direct instruction, and more hands-on discovery learning. In kindergarten, this means more math centers and games. I am looking for assistance in creating math centers for my classroom as we are only provided $100 for the whole year by the district. That $100 is expected to cover all materials for all subjects, as well as classroom decor.
With these supplies, I will be able to create HUNDREDS of games and centers throughout the school year.
The Math Train Lego set will encourage my kiddos to work together while discovering math operations and procedures. I can do this in small group, with independent learning, as well as whole-group instruction.
Another item on my project list is the Literature-Based learning center box set. This item is a dream-come-true because it is a perfect fit for combining math with literature. I can even sneak this center into a Daily 5 literacy block as well, so students will touch on some math within literacy!
I have chosen the other centers with plans to implement Daily 5 Math centers. My students can go to centers, grab the materials, and engage in cooperative discovery learning through play!
My hope and ultimate goal through these math centers is to grow and nurture a love of learning and excitement in math for all students! We thank you for your generosity and care!
