My Students
While my students come from high poverty backgrounds, the challenges they may face on a daily basis have not affected their passion for learning. I teach multiple subjects in a self-contained gifted 7th and 8th grade where my students who have a love for learning and are eager to come to school each day.
My students want to succeed, and I strive to create an environment that is relevant and engaging to them.
We are in need of more hands-on and relevant materials for my scholars.
My Project
Technology has become such an integral part of our everyday lives. I have seen it enhance my students lives in so many positive ways, from using resources to get extra practice in math concepts to researching and writing essays. While we are lucky to have some technology in our classroom, it is not enough to support the needs of my students.
It is important to have technology become an everyday part of students lives to enhance their learning experience.
Since we do not have technology to support students to use it as much as they should, I have seen how this has put students at a disadvantage. For example, currently, we take our state tests using computers, which requires students to type multi-paragraph essays. This timed test requires students to have not only knowledge of content, but also typing skills to get it completed within time constraints. I hope to introduce more technology in our classroom to get rid of challenges like this. The Chromebook and headphones would make such a positive impact on our classroom!
